The City, On Your Sleeve
by Korin Miller
(Excerpt) From cosmetics to clothing, New York has directly inspired a slew of fashion options across the board.
Take Carolyn New York: The nail polish company celebrates the city's good, bad and ugly -- in the form of lacquers with names like "Mugged on the 6 Train," "New York Harbor" and Sunset on the Hudson."
My line isn't about just nails -- it's about the beautiful colors of New York," said Carolyn New York founder Carolyn Cianciotto.

Carolyn New York Debuts New Nail Color Site
(Excerpt) Carolyn New York launched its new website, where nail polish fanatics can get the hottest colors 24/7 with a click of the mouse. To celebrate the launch, gifts, coupon-offers and more will be offered to visitors.
Designed by chief executive officer and company owner, Carolyn Cianciotto, getting around the website takes the consumer from the uptown world of Park Avenue to the downtown scenes of the East Village, Soho and Tribeca through the personal stories that inspired Carolyn's New York Colors.
The new website offers Carolyn New York's DBP-free nail laquers, a full range of custom nail treatments and luxurious hand products and manicure tools.
Like New York, the website is different everyday. "We reinvent it constantly with new products, holiday gift ideas, super savings and coupons you'll never find in salons or stores," Said Ms. Cianciotto. "Visitors will find something new every time they log on. Once you're a customer, you're not only my friend, you're an instant New Yorker, and every New Yorker loves a good deal," she added.
"There's a little New Yorker in everyone," said Ms. Cianciotto.

Manhattan Maven
New York Nail tech Carolyn Cianciotto is proving the song lyric true: "If I can make it there I'll make it anywhere." And Bronx-born Cianciotto still infuses her New York upbringing into everything she does: Every polish name in her recently released line, Carolyn New York, references an experience she had within the five boroughs. For example, Mugged On The Six Train, a dark purple, was named for an incident when Cianciotto was 14 and taking the subway home after attending a concert at madison Square Garden. (Other names include Black Out In THe Bronx, Cheating in Queens and Staten Italy.) "I have a very sick New York accent," She told Nailpr. "That's how people describe me. And I wanted my products to scream out my name."
Her New Yawk-ness was one quality that endeared her to the various celebrity clients for whom she provided services over the course of her 25-year-long career as a nail tech. While working at The Pierre New York hotel early in her career, Cianciotto counted tastemakers including Allure editor Linda Wells as regulars, which led to more VIP clients: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Queen Noor of Jordan and Betty Ford among them.

Latin Quarter
Latin has become more than just a heritage. It's now also a gimmick. White-as-Wonder political candidates try to incorporate Spanish phrases into their speeches: true blue Americana food purveyors like McDonald's and TGIFriday's bring in flavors that go far south of the border; and musicians like Beyonce release Spanish language albums despite the, um, obvious. So though Carolyn New York's latest trip of Latin inspired polishes may inspire an initial eye roll, they are actually worth checking out. Celebrated manicurist, and native New Yorker, Carolyn Cianciotto based her entire nail brand on her hometown, with each color -- from the crimson Cheating in Queens to the pearl-white 42nd Street -- paying homage to a different neighborhood. So with a Hispanic population as large and varied as New York's, it's about time that she christened a Latin Line. The trio of new shades -- Poppy Chulo is a frosty magenta, Fatty Chuletta a shimmering brick, and Spanish Harlem a classic bronze -- look good on anyone regardless of their background. Available at carolynnewyork.com.

Bright Ideas: What's New In Nails
Two Toned Tips -- (excerpt)
Sometimes two colors are better than one -- as with the fun dual-toned manicure you see here, with one color on the front another underneath. To get the look, let your nails grow a bit. "You need length to see the under color, as well as be able to get under the nail with your brush," says New York City-based manucurist Tabitha, who created the look shown here. Got short nails? Fake it with [...] artificial nails. Try Carolyn New York polish in Koren Fruit & Flower Stand - $7.

Lluvia De Color
LATIN COLLECTION NAIL POLISH - Spanish Harlem, de Carolyn New York.
